چکیده

Arabidopsis root hair formation is determined by the patterning genes CAPRICE (CPC), GLABRA3 (GL3), WEREWOLF (WER) and GLABRA2 (GL2), but little is known about the later changes in cell wall material during root hair formation. A combined Fourier-transform infrared microspectroscopy-principal components analysis (FTIR-PCA) method was used to detect subtle differences in the cell wall material between wild-type and root hair mutants in Arabidopsis. Among several root hair mutants, only the gl2 mutation affected root cell wall polysaccharides. Five of the 10 genes encoding cellulose synthase (CESA1-10) and 4 of 33 xyloglucan endotransglucosylase (XTH1-33) genes in Arabidopsis are expressed in the root, but only CESA5 and XTH17 were affected by the gl2 mutation. The L1-box sequence located in the promoter region of these genes was recognized by the GL2 protein. These results indicate that GL2 directly regulates cell wall-related gene expression during root development.

ANTHOCYANINLESS2, a homeobox gene affecting anthocyanin distribution and root development in Arabidopsis.

The ANTHOCYANINLESS2 (ANL2) gene was isolated from Arabidopsis by using the maize Enhancer-Inhibitor transposon tagging system. Sequencing of the ANL2 gene showed that it encodes a homeodomain protein belonging to the HD-GLABRA2 group. As we report here, this homeobox gene is involved in the accumulation of anthocyanin and in root development. Histological observations of the anl2 mutant reveal...

Identification and Expression Analysis of Two Arabidopsis LRR-Protein Encoding Genes Responsive to Some Abiotic Stresses

AbstractTwo Arabidopsis thaliana genes, psr9.2 and psr9.4 appearedto be highly similar to a phosphate-starved induced gene,psr9, isolated from Brassica nigra suspension cells.Sequence analysis classified the encoded polypeptides asmembers of leucine-rich repeat (LRR) proteins superfamily. The sequence of psr9 proteins comprise a unique N-terminalregion e...

The HD-Zip IV gene GaHOX1 from cotton is a functional homologue of the Arabidopsis GLABRA2.

Most of the plant homeodomain-containing proteins play important roles in organ patterning and development, and Arabidopsis GLABRA2 (GL2), a member of the class IV homeodomain-leucine zipper (HD-ZIP) proteins, is a trichome and non-root hair cell regulator. Here we report the analysis of two cotton homeodomain-containing proteins, GaHOX1 and GaHOX2, isolated from the diploid cotton Gossypium ar...

TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA2, a trichome and seed coat development gene of Arabidopsis, encodes a WRKY transcription factor.

Mutants of a new gene, TRANSPARENT TESTA GLABRA2 (TTG2), show disruptions to trichome development and to tannin and mucilage production in the seed coat. The gene was tagged by the endogenous transposon Tag1 and shown to encode a WRKY transcription factor. It is the first member of this large, plant-specific family known to control morphogenesis. The functions of all other WRKY genes revealed t...

Leaf rolling controlled by the homeodomain leucine zipper class IV gene Roc5 in rice.

Leaf rolling is considered an important agronomic trait in rice (Oryza sativa) breeding. To understand the molecular mechanism controlling leaf rolling, we screened a rice T-DNA insertion population and isolated the outcurved leaf1 (oul1) mutant showing abaxial leaf rolling. The phenotypes were caused by knockout of Rice outermost cell-specific gene5 (Roc5), an ortholog of the Arabidopsis (Arab...
